The World Anti-Doping Agency, also known as WADA, has called for banning Russian athletes from the Rio de Janeiro Olympics. WADA called for the ban after confirming that the Russian government worked to cover up doping among its athletes. Richard McLaren is a Canadian lawyer. He spent 57 days preparing the report for WADA. The report says the Russian government helped the athletes cheat by hiding test results and changing urine samples leading up to both the 2012 Olympics in London and the 2014 Sochi Games. Thomas Bach is the president of the International Olympic Committee, or IOC. He called Russia’s actions a “shocking and unprecedented attack on the integrity of sports and on the Olympic Games.” The IOC will meet on Tuesday to discuss a punishment for the Russian Olympic team.
