It is officially summer beach season here in the United States. While some popular beaches have hotels and businesses along them, others are protected from development by the United States government. Some of these areas are called national seashores. The National Park Service oversees them. One special national seashore along America’s East Coast is called Assateague Island. People can enjoy the sand, warm waters and the island’s special residents: wild horses. Changing climate and weather patterns, however, are threatening the future of the island.
